Warren L. Snow of Whitman passed away on Saturday December 8th after a lengthy illness. Beloved husband of Michele (Abraham) Snow and devoted and loving father of Michael A. Snow and his wife Carla of Palm Beach Gardens, FL. Son of the late Everett and Norma Snow, Warren is predeceased by his brothers Donald P. Snow of Whitman and Russell F. Snow of Bridgewater. Born and raised in Brockton, Warren received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Bridgewater State University, Bridgewater, MA. He retired from the Brockton Public Schools in 1994 after a lifelong career as an educator and an administrator in the Social Studies Department of East Junior High School. Whitman – William F. “Bill” Chase Jr. 80, a resident of Whitman for over forty nine years, died Tuesday December 11 after a period of failing health. He was the beloved husband of fifty five years to Margaret “Peggy” (Joyce) Chase. Born in Boston and raised in Quincy he was the son of the late William F. and Nellie (Bockman) Chase, and a graduate of Quincy High School. Bill was a proud Veteran of the US Navy having served from 1949-1953 during the Korean War. For his service overseas Bill had earned both the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. Before his retirement Bill had worked many years as a printer in the Boston and South Shore areas. Bill was a talented artist and after his retirement he spent many enjoyable hours painting and drawing. In addition to his wife Peggy he is survived by his loving children Holly Chase of East Weymouth, Billy Chase of Whitman, and Gregory Chase and his wife Laura of Whitman, and his grandchildren Olivia and Harrison Chase. His funeral service will be held Friday December 14 at 11 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. Burial will follow at 1:45 PM in the Massachusetts VA Cemetery, Bourne. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 9 -11 AM. Patricia A. (Lagerquist) Johanson, 81,formerly of Whitman, died Tuesday December 18th in the Colony House Nursing & Rehab Center in Abington. She was the wife of the late Howard O.G. Johanson. Pat was born in Braintree, daughter of the late Clarence and Phyllis (Goulding) Lagerquist. She has been a resident of Whitman for most of her life, a graduate of Whitman High Class of 1949 and a former member of the Whitman Congregational Church. Pat was also involved with the Friends of the Whitman Senior Citizens. Pat enjoyed camping, needlepoint and working with crafts. She is survived by several nieces and nephews and cousins. Her funeral services will be held on Saturday December 22nd at 11:00 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth St. (Rte 58 at the rotary circle) Whitman, MA. Visitation will be held one hour prior to her service from 10:00-11:00 AM. Burial will follow in the Colebrook Cemetery, Whitman. Donations may be made in her name to the Charity of One’s Choice.

John H. Connell, 88, of Whitman, passed away, on Monday December 24th in the Life Care Center of West Bridgewater. He was the beloved husband of Anne B. (Walsh) Connell. John was born in Stoughton, a graduate of Mission High School in Boston and he has been a resident of Whitman for over 30 years. John was a communicant of the Holy Ghost Church of Whitman. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy during WWII, serving his country from 1942-1946 as an Electrician 2nd class. John was an electrician for the former Mass Electric, now National Grid, for over 40 years. He enjoyed his grandchildren, walking and reading. In addition to his wife Anne, he is survived by his children, Mike Connell of Weymouth, Gary Connell and his wife Marilyn of Braintree, Brian Connell and his wife Lynda of Whitman, John Connell, Jr. of Whitman, Thomas and his wife Andrea of East Bridgewater, Maryanne Gosselin of Weymouth and the late David Connell. He is also survived by his sister Elizabeth Lopresti of PA, as well as 15 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. His funeral services will be held on Saturday December 29th at 8:15 from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth St. (Rte 58 at the rotary circle) Whitman, followed by a funeral mass at 9:00AM in the Holy Ghost Church. Brockton – Poy L. Wong 92 of Brockton, formerly of Whitman, passed away on Sunday December 23. He was the beloved husband of Helen (Lee) Wong. He was born in Hoy Ping, Canton China September 23, 1920 and came to America in 1936 at the age of 16. He was a Veteran of World War II, having enlisted in the US Coast Guard in 1942 and serving until 1945, and was a participant of the Normandy Invasion in 1944. In 1965 he became a naturalized American citizen. After returning from the war Poy had started his own Dry Cleaning & Laundry business and retired from the same location in Whitman after forty years. In addition to his wife Helen he is survived by his loving children Lorraine Williams and her husband Richard of Costa Mesa and Indio, CA, Lenna Herlihy and her husband Robert of Hanover, Dennis Wong and his wife Cathie of Phoenix, AZ and Steven Wong of Dover, NH. He is also survived by his four grandchildren Sarah and Adam Herlihy and Martin and Peter Wong. Middleboro – Anne D. (Killoh) DeBuigny 98, formerly of Whitman, died Friday December 28 after a brief period of failing health. She was the beloved wife of the late Arthur DeBuigny. Born in Quincy she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Isabell (Bremner) Killoh. Anne was a gifted cook and had worked cooking for the Weymouth School system, retiring after twenty years. Before her move to Middleboro, Anne had been a longtime resident of Whitman and an active member of the First Congregational Church as well as a member of the church’s Emerson Club. She loved knitting and crocheting and shared her talents with the many items she made for family and friends, and had truly enjoyed the challenge of a good “Yatzee” game. However her greatest joy came from the time spent with her devoted family. She is survived by her loving children Elizabeth Lundgren of Hanson, Margaret Christie of Middleboro, and Donald DeBuigny and Peter DeBuigny both of Florida. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Margaret MacLeod, and William and Alexander Killoh. Service information to follow.

Delcie (Courson) Atherton, 89, of Whitman, passed away on January 2nd after a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Gilfred ”Gilly” E. Atherton. She was born and brought up in Elizabethtown, NC, daughter of the late William and Marie (Kinlaw) Courson. She was a graduate of Elizabethtown High School. Delcie was a proud veteran of the United States Navy during World War II joining at age eighteen. She has been a Whitman resident for over 65 years, a communicant of the former First Baptist Church of Whitman and worked as a secretary for the former Thom McCann Shoe Company before retiring. Delcie was well known for walking all over town and was friends with everyone. She also enjoyed needlepoint and caring for her granddaughter Kelsey. She was the epitome of a true southern belle. She was “Granny” to all that knew her. She is survived by her daughter Melodye Atherton-Beattie, her husband Craig and her granddaughter Kelsey Beattie all of Putnam, CT.; her sister Sylvia Brady of NC.; one niece and two nephews in NC. She was also the sister of the late Nannette Dollar. Her visitation will be held on Sunday, January 6th from 2 – 6PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel. Whitman – Charles F. Pace 83, a longtime resident of Whitman, died Sunday January 6 after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of the late Beverly A. (Stetson) Pace. Born and raised in Weymouth he was the son of the late William E. and Martha (Hollis) Pace, and had attended Weymouth schools. He was a proud veteran of the US Army having served as Military Police from 1948-1950 and was a member of the American Legion Post #22. For over 17 years he had worked as a driver for the Greyhound Bus Lines, then becoming the first Executive Director of Housing for the Town of Whitman, retiring after 28 years of service. As a longtime and active member of the Whitman community, “Honest Chuck” was a friendly and familiar face. He had given much of his time serving on several local boards and had functioned as a DPW Commissioner forever. He was also a longtime and active member of the United Church of Christ in Whitman where he had served as a deacon. Charlie was loyal and active member of the Masons where he was a member of the Puritan Lodge AF&AM, a past Patron of the Pilgrim Chapter of OES #89, a member of the Aleppo Shrine of Wilmington, serving as Captain of the Minuteman Unit, a member of the Valley of Boston Scottish Rite and the Major General Henry Knox Lodge AF&AM, a past President and Treasurer of the South Shore Shriners, and a member of the Taleb Grotto of Quincy and St. Andrews, Royal Arch Chapter of Boston. He is survived by his loving children Charles E. Pace and his wife Millie of Whitman, Bernard Pace and his wife Marcia of Abington, Wayne Pace and his wife Gail of Taunton, Fred Pace and his wife Kim of Brockton, Corrine Maloney and her husband Dennis of Taunton and Dawn Blasingame and her husband Larry of Texas. He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren. His funeral service will be held Saturday January 12 at 6 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth St. (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. Born in Newton and raised in Whitman he was the beloved son of Suzanne (Jupin) Tobin and Andrew Samuelson of East Bridgewater and the late Thomas J. Tobin. Jason grew up in a tight knit neighborhood in Whitman with many close childhood friends that he treasured. He enjoyed playing basketball and golf and was an avid sports fan. Jason truly enjoyed spending time with his family and was a loving and devoted father. He spent much of his professional career working at Fidelity in Merrimack, NH and most recently worked for Flextronics of Waltham, MA. In addition to his wife and parents he is survived by his sons Jackson and Henry Tobin of Merrimack, NH, his twin brother Andrew Tobin and his wife Lisa of Whitman, his sister Nicole Tobin of East Bridgewater, his niece Payton Tobin of Whitman…and his treasured dog Shaggy. Arthur has been a Whitman resident for many years and was a member of the Holy Ghost Church, where he was an usher and a volunteer at the St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry .He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 60 years. He worked for the New York, New Haven Railroad for a numbers of years. She was the beloved wife of 51 years to Thomas G. Prather, Sr. She was born and brought up in Boston, daughter of the late John J. and Alice (Casey) Hennessy. Mary was a graduate of Holy Trinity Catholic High School in Boston. Mary has been a resident of Whitman for 43 years She attended the Holy Ghost Church, and a member of the Whitman Mothers Club and the East Bridgewater YMCA. In her younger years she worked for Stone and Webster and then for Aetna Insurance Company for 14 years. Mary was a kind and loving wife and mother, enjoyed taking trips with her husband on the back of his Harley Davidson also enjoyed cooking and doing water aerobics at the YMCA. In addition to her husband Thomas, she is survived by her sons Kevin Prather and his wife Sharon of Brockton, James Prather of Whitman, her sister Catherine McClearn of Cape Cod, her brothers, Edward Hennessy of Tewksbury, Robert Hennessy of Florida and William Hennessy of Reading, her grandchildren Ciara Carlton of Stoughton, Brianna and Michael Prather of Brockton; also several nieces and nephews. She was also the mother of the late Thomas Prather, Jr and sister of the late Jack Hennessy. He was the beloved husband of 49 Years to Joan L. (Sowerby) Foster. He was born and brought up in Stoughton, son of the late Kenneth F. and Margaret (Burke) Foster .Ken was a graduate of Stoughton High School and the Boston Trade School. Ken has been a Whitman resident for 44 years and was the owner and operator of Ken’s Heating for many years. He was a member of the Whitman and Abington Knights of Columbus. In addition to his wife Joan, he is survived by his daughter Johanna O’Toole and her husband Kevin of Florida, his son Scott Foster and his companion Allyson Davis of Brockton, his sister Marjorie Raymond of Methuen; also his 3 grandchildren Kevin, Hannah and Faith, many nieces and nephews. William E. “Billy” Means, 70, of Whitman, passed away on Tuesday January 15th at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Veronica (Ware) Means. Born in Brockton, son of the late Edward Means and Alice (O’Connell) (Means) Fowler. Billy was a lifelong resident of Whitman, graduate of Whitman-Hanson High School, class of 1962. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, serving his country for 1962-1966 and was a member of the American Legion Post 22 and the VFW Post 697 in Whitman. Billy was a retired union carpenter from the Local Union # 424. He enjoyed fishing and working in his own woodshop and he especially enjoyed being with his grandkids. In addition to his wife Veronica, he is survived by his 3 daughters, Michelle Means-Drass and her fiancé John Andres of West Bridgewater, Maureen Higgins and her husband Steve of Abington, and Melissa Miller and her husband Brian of East Bridgewater, his brothers, Mark Means and his wife Tracy of Virginia and Steve Fowler and his wife Lynn of Vermont, his sisters, Patricia Reade and her husband Bud of Florida, Donna Mullen and her husband Michael of New Hampshire and Judy Smith and her husband Fred of Vermont; also six grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. His services will be held on Monday January 21st at 8:00PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth St. (Rte 58 at the rotary circle) Whitman. John S. Chase, 76, of Whitman, passed away on Tuesday January 15th, after a lengthy illness. John was the loving husband of Carole (Gough) Chase for 52 years and loving father of Debbie Noonan and her husband Tim, Jack Chase and his wife Mary, Laurie Bollenbach and her husband Kyle and horary daughter Lori Gardner, devoted grandfather of Ryan, Danny, Erik, Mike, Katie, Ashley, Jason Alexis, Alyna and Malcolm. John was an accomplished auto body technician with a love for restoring antique cars. He became a master mechanic for Amtrack for many years and worked for the Whitman school systems in his later years. John also was a call fireman for the Town of Whitman. He was a veteran of the United States National Guard from 1958-1959. John had a passion for boating and was an avid fisherman, along with a loving family man. John’s best man was his loyal dog Darcy, who was always at his side to watch over him. His funerals services will be private.

Jeanne M. (Gardner) Fay, 78, of Whitman, died on Monday January 21st in the South Shore Hospital after a period of failing health. She was the beloved wife of 50 years to the late John J. Fay, Jr. Jeanne was born in Weymouth and graduated from Weymouth High School, class of 1952. After high school, she was employed at the Bethlem Steel Co. for 25 years.Jeanne was the first woman officer in the Industrial shipbuilder Union-Local #90 in 1958.She retired from Wollaston Alloys, Inc. in 1999. Jeanne and John lived in North Abington for 25 years before moving to Whitman in 1981 and has been a resident ever since. She was Past Noble Grand of Vida Rebekah Lodge #43, secretary for Whitman Senior Club and secretary for Friends of the Whitman Seniors. Jeanne enjoyed reading, knitting and gardening She is survived by her sister Dorothy Sime of Scituate, her sister-in-law Doris (Fay) Boyce of Rockland , her nephew Brian Sime, Jr.; also her dear friends Mary and Amanda Mastrangelo , Jeanne MacKay and Virginia MacAlpine. She was also the sister of the late Margaret Spencer and aunt of the late Judith Sime. Brian F. Weir, 62, of Rockland formerly of Whitman, passed away on Tuesday January 29th surrounded by his family in the South Shore Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Karen (Conley) Weir. Brian was the son of the late James M. and Helen (Kelly) Weir and was a lifelong resident of Whitman before moving to Rockland a year ago. He joined the Merchant Marines and then to the United States Army. Brian returned to Whitman in1982 after the service and worker as an IT Technician for the Wang Labs and then worked for the Arbella Insurance Company before retiring. He enjoyed playing pool, golf and taking trips on his motorcycle and especially walking his dog “Weiser”. In addition to his wife Karen, he is survived by his two sons Daniel J. Weir and his wife Michelle of West Bridgewater, Brian Weir and his companion Kelly Shannon of Whitman, his step children, Cayla and Stephen Newman, his brother James Weir and his wife Janet of Onset; also two grandchildren Braelyn and Ethan Weir. He was also the brother of the late Bruce Weir, Mary Johansen and Sandra Lambert. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his visitation on Friday February 1st from 4:00-8:00PM in the Blanchard funeral chapel, Plymouth St. (Rte 58 at the rotary circle) Whitman. His funeral service will be held on Saturday February 2nd at 10:00AM in the chapel. Laverne T. (Olson) Hill, 86, of East Bridgewater, formerly of Whitman, died on Saturday February 1st. She was the wife of the late William J. “Billy” Hill. Born and brought up in Brockton, daughter of the late Leonard and Mary (Beary) Olson and a graduate of Brockton High. Laverne has been a longtime resident of Whitman and recently retired to White Pine Estates in East Bridgewater. She worked for the Red Coach Grill for 25 years as a waitress, hostess and trainer and then with the family tax business in Whitman for several years. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the Whitman VFW Post # 697. She enjoyed wintering in their Florida home and summering in Humarock, traveling to Lake George with her husband and friends, Laverne also enjoyed playing bingo. She is survived by her sons, Dennis Walters and his wife Beverley of VA., Donald Walters of Whitman, her daughters, Jayne ( Walters) Smith of Rockland, Nancie (Hill) Amaral of Hudson, her sisters, Mary Menendez of Stoughton, Barbara Grenon of Fl. and Lois Clergy and her husband Jack of Whitman; also many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Francis, Raymond and Robert Olson, Miriam Torrey and Evelyn Alger. Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend her visitation on Tuesday February 5th from 4:00-8:00, in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth St ( Rte 58 at the rotary circle) Whitman. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday February 6th at 11:00AM in the Chapel. Interment will follow in the Colebrook Cemetery, Whitman.
